News and Highlights

Current building codes, deed restrictions and environmental mandates often forbid the removal of existing trees and other vegetation in development  projects.  Can-Cal Machinery is a long-standing KOBELCO dealer in Fresno, California.  They recently filled a requirement for a land-clearing contractor who specializes in site preparation for housing development in rural areas.

In this situation, the Cen-Cal customer chose the KOBELCO 200SRLC, a Short Radius machine that can comfortably work in and around existing trees and flora without damaging them or the machine.  Short Radius machines offer a small tail swing radius, meaning that the counterweight extends only a small amount, in this case 4", beyond the tracks when the upper frame swings 360 degrees.

Customizing the machine, Cen-Cal equipped it with a 36" rake, quick coupler and hydraulic thumb to meet the demands of this particular application.  This powerful, and extremely stable, machine can accommodate a wide variety of attachments such as these.  This extends the versatility of the Short Radius concept to most every application.

KOBELCO offers a complete line of Short Radius machines.  They range from the 13SR Gate Keeper, weighing just over 3,200 lbs. to the massive 235SR High and Wide at over 60,600 lbs.  These versatile machines are revolutionizing excavator use in every application.  They can all work extremely close to job site obstructions, existing structures and fauna.  The variable undercarriage 13SR Gate Keeper can comfortably walk through a standard 36" gate.  KOBELCO's 235SR High and Wide is ideally suited for conversion to forestry applications where trees are being replanted and harvested as crops.  During the re-growth period, it is necessary to thin the trees.  Using a Short Radius machine, this can be accomplished with minimal damage to the trees that need to be preserved for harvest later.
